Fit & 40, Pinewood Derby, Blake Update + a Birthday Party!

Dave set some lofty goals for his 40th birthday.
The first was he wanted to lose 40 pounds before his 40th birthday
and,he DID! The week before his birthday he hit the 40 lbs mark.
I was so proud of him.

One of his other goals was to run a 5K and future goals include participating in a Sprint Triathlon
and to swim the Escape from Alcatraz.
I think he is crazy with that last goal!

The morning of his birthday Kaia and Dave ran their first 5K....together.
They completed the race in 29 minutes.
Someone told us it was really more like 4. something miles
so that helps explains Dave's time. He thought he would have been faster than that!
Kaia was so proud of herself for not stopping.
She came in 3rd for her age group and Dave came in 7th in his new age group....
40 - 45!

The run was the Race for Education and benefited our local schools!
It was fun to be surrounded by so many friends that morning all supporting our schools.

Dave and Kaia with sweet friends that also ran the race!
Dave's first sprint triathlon is this weekend.
We will all be there cheering him and our friend, Joe, to the finish.

And speaking of races......
Blake participated in his first Pinewood Derby Race with Cub Scouts.

They really encouraged the boys to make and decorate their cars themselves. Not the dads!
Blake drew his design. Painted his car and drew on the pinstripes with a sharpie pen.
Blake was chosen to lead the Flag ceremony that evening.
He read the instructions all by himself!

And then the races began. Blake took second place in almost every race.
I was so proud of all the boys and their stellar sportsmanship cheering everyone one.

It was a great experience for our first {sometimes more competitive among the dads than boys} Pinewood Derby Race!

More news on Blake to come. We spent Tuesday at Spina Bifida clinic. Dave loves going to clinic. He loves being surrounded by people who get us/it. I don't necessarily like clinic...it's like Spina Bifida in my face up close and personal. Not that it isn't everyday we cath, but it's different at clinic. I do love the great doctors though! Lots of tests are scheduled in the near future and probably two different surgeries. I will keep you all posted as we find out more about his little body. Please keep him in your prayers. It's a lot to take in for an 8 year old.

AND....you'll want to come back tomorrow.
Guess who's birthday it is?
This little ole blog turned 3 this week.
Something fun will be planned for Friday
and I'll let you in on a few FVL giveaways going on around blog land!

  5. Wow! I don't know if I could run for 29 whole minutes. That's a long time. Great job Dave and Kaia! You have inspired me to my dogs for a little jog...probably more like walk; it's exercise nonetheless.

I'll be praying for Blake. I know very little about spina bifida. I'm going to research about it so I'll know how to pray for him.

  6. How fun! That has to feel like such an accomplishment for all three of them (and you)! I so need to get my lazy booty back into the gym...this post has motivated me to "think" about doing it. ;-)

Oh...and your Easter family pictures are so precious! You guys are too funny...

    take care

  7. 29 min is impressive for sure. My first 5K...I ran really slow...40 min. I was just so happy that I didn't walk.
Great job to both of them.

I heart comments! Just one rule that I'm sure your momma taught you...if you don't have anything nice to say...please don't say anything at all!
