38 Today. Dave tried telling you all in his new post below that I'm turning 42. Ha. Ha. Real Funny. Although nothing is really wrong with 42. It IS just around the corner for me. I woke up to a few surprises. The birthday fairy decorated my doorway, which usually only happens for children in our home, so it was a nice reminder this morning that today is my special day. And....I woke up with a pimple, a big one, on my cheek. I guess it is just a reminder that 38 is still YOUNG!
Speaking of young. When I was a little girl I vividly remember our fresh milk deliveries twice weekly. The gallons would be left on the porch in a metal crate. I believe my very earliest memories were glass bottles and then remember them changing to plastic gallon containers, but still delivered in the metal crates. Mom would send one of us kids out to the front porch to fetch the milk and put it away. Four gallons. We drank a lot of milk. That, and my mom provided day care in our home so she could stay home and raise her little darlings. I loved the feeling of getting our milk delivered from Stornettas. I'm not sure exactly why I loved it so much. But it made me feel special, like I lived in the days of "Little House on the Prairie."
Today I woke and walked through my streamer filled doorway. I opened my front shutters and saw the Farm Fresh to You truck in front of my house. My local fresh fruits and veggies were being delivered to my front porch. Left there for us to fetch. I thought for a minute about continuing the tradition of sending one of the kiddos out to fetch the box and put the items away, but then realized my birthday was off to a great start. I would go fetch the present myself. It made me feel special all over again, just as the milk delivery would as a child. And I was showered with fresh strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce, oranges, carrots, a yellow seeded watermelon, some parsley and three white peaches. Happy Birthday to Me!
