....after 9:00 pm that is. And what a bummer that is. I enjoy a scoop or two of ice-cream at night with my whipped cream. {Notice I wrote...WITH my whipped cream....usually there is more whipped cream than ice-cream in the bowl.} I get the kids in bed, get the remote and blanket set out on the couch....go scoop the ice-cream, squirt the whipped cream and then sit......sit and eat and watch whatever reality tv show is on at 9:00 pm.
For the past few years, I have experienced a frequent upset tummy once horizontal....which usually means getting in bed. I moan and groan...and moan and groan some more and complain that I feel like I have morning sickness all over again. I finally pinpointed it to my lactose intake "after hours". What a bummer. Gone are my indulgent nights, the taste of rich, smooth creamy ice cream sliding down my throat all while being filled with my reality tv...which Dave has to ruin by reminding me that it really isn't all that real. Oh well....I think...it works for me...it is my little escape from my real world each evening....so I continue to indulge in the reality part!
I have been really missing my ice-cream at night, but not missing the upset tummy! Today I decided that I needed to remember to have my ice-cream earlier in the day. So guess what....I'm eating my ice-cream NOW!!! At 2:27 pm and it tastes wonderful and incredibly indulgent at this hour! Now if I can just keep the kids from seeing me so I don't have to share, I'll be good! You should have heard the funny loud noises I made while squirting the whipped cream so they wouldn't recognize the sound. {cough, loud cough, louder fake cough}!
You absolutely crack me up...my how I have missed you. At times reading your blog I think you remind me a lot of myself but then I realize it's only b/c I want to be as funny as you but am not quite there. I'm so sorry about the lactose thing...major bummer, esp. since it goes so well with reality TV - which I might add is pretty much the only thing I watch (and it is REALITY;) ) Anyhow, I realized why you never got my note on your other blog - I think at least, when I saved your blog it constanly just took me back to the entry of when blake got lost at church, so for the past who knows how long I thought you'd given up on the whole blog thing, then I went to your blog via Amy's and lo and behold - I've missed so much activity. I love reading it, mainly b/c it brings a smile to my face and also bc although I haven't seent you in years, I can TOTALLY see you having these experiences ,etc. and I love it!! ANyhow, this is already tooooo long. Hope you enjoyed your 2:27 ice cream. Laura (Temple)
ReplyDeleteI love the fake loud cough....maybe just eat the whip cream at night...that sounds just as good to me! I used to eat bowls and BOWLS of whip cream and cherries while I waited for my mom to get off work when I was a little girl. Happily fed to me by bartenders who had no children! I am not sure if they were trying to indulge me or drive my mother crazy?? Either way, I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI totally do that fake noise thing so that they don't realize I'm getting into my GOODIES! LOL How funny..I'm sorry though, that you can't enjoy it in the evening. At least now you have a reason for getting your dairy intake in the morning, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteyes, another whipped cream fancier. It is absolutely my favorite food. You are so cute April, you are such a great example to us readers--thanks for sharing! We sure love sitting in front of you on Sundays!! CathyW
ReplyDeleteHahaha making the noises so you don't have to share- too funny.
ReplyDeleteSorry you can't enjoy your late night treat any more, but it is pretty good as afternoon indulgences go.
I think I was eating ice cream and caramel at 2:27 this afternoon, TOO! :)
ReplyDeleteoh April, again! Another little funny quirk we have in common-- ice cream AT NIGHT-- with TV (tho we don't watch TV anymore, so now it's with a book. A bit trickier to hold the bowl and the spoon AND the book, but that hasn't stopped me!). And with no kids! Ice cream is ten times better with no kids! Amen to that!
ReplyDeleteI would NOT give up my indulgence for a little lactose intolerance, no siree! I would substitute soy or rice-based ice creams, or sorbets. Or frozen yogurt if that'd work, but I would not, could not, give up my late-night cup of ice cream and solitude!
Join the club! I've been a member for 9 years. You know Breyers makes a yummy vanilla "Lactose Free" ice cream. You just add your own toppings and Voila! YUM! Now you can have ice cream at 2:27pm and some of the lactose free kind at 9pm.
