I threw a piece of spaghetti on the wall tonight to check to see if it was done. It stuck {after the fourth throw...the first three weren't good throws} so I considered it done. Does that really mean it was done? It tasted great....but I have wondered now the rest of the evening if that old test is true. How do YOU know when your spaghetti is done?
i usually just taste it...also for really good pasta i set my timer 12 min is perfect. for cheap pasta 8 min works well. i make sure the water is at a real rolling boil add lots of salt then add my pasta. and start timer.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was hanging out a lot at the Sorensen house (oh..such wonderful memories) , they would throw it on the ceiling. They had vaulted ceilings in the kitchen and you wouldn't believe how much spaghetti was up there. If it stuck, it was done. So, I think you're really doing it right!
ReplyDeleteWe used to throw it on the ceiling too! But now I find 10 mins for regular spaghetti is the perfect time.
ReplyDeleteMy hubs did this trick just the other night to "teach" the 10 year old about spaghetti cooking. I gave him a look like "don't do that to my cabinets again! LOL I do believe it's a true tester, though..I think you're safe.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of that before. That is crazy. I just time it and then taste test it. That sounds like a lot of fun though.
ReplyDeleteMy husband served his mission in Italy. They cook their pasta "al dente" which literally means "to the tooth". He always cooks our pasta perfectly. He always bites into a noodle to make sure that it is firm but not crunchy or sticky and mushy. He adds salt and a little olive oil to the water.
