"Author Anna Quindlen reminds us not to rush past the fleeting moments....She said: “The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less”(Loud and Clear [2004], 10–11).
Starting today I am going to be better. . .I am going to listen, love, communicate, cherish, enjoy, teach, preach and prepare my children. Time for everything else later.

This was a quote used in a talk given by Elder M. Russel Ballard and it is exactly what is in my heart. I want happiness, peace and love to abide in my home. I want to be a righteous mommy who tries hard everyday to teach, preach, love, listen and cherish. I want to always feel madly in love with hubs. I started yesterday by starting my morning after I got the kids to school with my own personal prayer and scripture study. Prayer is a hit and miss thing for me in the a.m. and personal scrip study had been pretty much non-existent with children home all day. But yesterday I started and I loved the stirring in my soul. My crown off to those of you mommies with children at home all day who get their scripture study in. I'm in whole heartedly. Stir away!
very well put -- very much the kick in the booty i needed too! it was such a great weekend and i had a ton of fun with you guys. (and i'm honored to be added to your list.)
ReplyDeleteMan do I ever need to hear this. It is so true. I have been really bad lately with getting so frustrated with my kids because I can't get anything done with a newborn. I do need to just chill and cherish the moments. Good goal too with the prayer and scripture study. So important to take the time and it makes such a difference. Not saying I am doing that right now but I want to be doing it! :)
